Young Artists Program
“Like no canvas or gallery you’ve ever known”
The Winnipeg Folk Festival and the Winnipeg Art Gallery are pleased to present the eighth annual Young Artists Program at the 2012 Winnipeg Folk Festival: a week long “travelling studio” for visual artists 14 to 18 years old. Work with mentors and peers to create a collective art exhibit in beautiful Birds Hill Provincial Park during the Winnipeg Folk Festival.
The program begins at the WAG studios where participants experiment with a variety of eco-friendly materials to create collaborative large-scale outdoor artwork, as well as individual works. The group then heads out to the festival to install their creations in a collective art exhibition that interacts with the natural environment. Students experimented with hand-made, recycled, reclaimed and eco-friendly materials to create puppets, marionettes and other interactive sculptures in the 2011 installation, titled “The Amazing Art-a-matronic Dream Machine!” Each year, a new theme is explored.
