Food Village Submissions
Winnipeg Folk Festival Food Village
We love great food and are proud to offer festival goers a delicious variety of ethical and sustainable food choices. Approximately 20 vendors are selected each year. Applications for the 2013 festival are now closed. The deadline to apply was January 14, 2013. Selection decisions are final.
Booths: Booths are 10’x15’ wooden structures with a ceiling and asphalt pad, no walls. A 10′ x 10′ tent is erected in front of the booth, meaning that the total space provided is 10’x25’, with the 10’ side being the serving area. Booth spaces include access to water, 30-50 amps of electricity and serving counter. Vendors who prefer to bring their own booth will be considered, space permitting. Equipment for food preparation, materials for display, lighting and weatherproofing are your responsibility. Keep in mind that we are an outdoor event.
Hours: The Food Village is open 5:00 pm – 12:00 am Wednesday to Thursday and 10:00 am – 12:00 am Friday to Sunday.
Fee: $4,000.00 plus G.S.T. Deposit of $700.00 is required with application.
Carts/Tents: Specify size of cart/tent, electricity and plumbing requirements.
Fee: Varies depending on size and menu. Deposit of $500.00 is required with application.
*All concession fees include a limited number of festival and parking passes for employees.
Plumbing (Booth Concessions only):
Potable water – a 1/2” male potable water line is provided at the back of each booth. You are responsible for bringing your own sinks, food grade hoses to connect the sinks, and connector hose and ring to connect to the main drainage pipe. You must have your own down pipes in place on your sinks, connected to one main hose with an end fitting that will be compatible with our 1.5” PVC drainage pipe.
Electricity (Booth Concessions only):
Electricity is very limited. We encourage the use of propane equipment. Only approved equipment will be permitted.
• We reserve the right to shut down equipment when necessary.
• You are required to use outdoor grade commercial grounded cables, at least 14 gauge.
• Equipment must be in good working condition.
• Be aware that you may be required to alternate usage of equipment
Propane: Vendors using propane will be required to use 450 lb. tanks (100 lb. tanks are deemed a fire risk by the Workplace Health and Safety Inspector). In consultation with the propane installer, vendors must ensure propane vessels are of appropriate size, configuration and stability, and are located a safe and reasonable distance from any ignition source.
LOFT: Local, Organic, Fair Trade
We encourage vendors to include menu items that feature locally produced, organic or fair trade ingredients.
Our primary basis for selection is the quality of your menu. Other important considerations are:
- Technical feasibility and electrical requirements.
- Overall menu balance of the Festival.
- The look of your booth or vending outlet.
- Previous history with the Winnipeg Folk Festival.
- Experience with festivals and events.
- The professional nature of your application.
- The inclusion of local, organic, fair trade ingredients.
