The Winnipeg Folk Festival Folk Exchange presents Revolusón on May 16.

Revoluson is a original Afro-Cuban Jazz trio consisting of three members of the legendary salsa group “Papa Mambo”. The band features Rodrigo Munoz (Bass, vocals, percussion), Victor-Hugo Lopez (Guitar, Cuban tres) and Scott “senor” Senior (Congas, Bata). A high energy
show filled with original compositions and a different take on some jazz standards. Do not miss this show, as the band is getting together specifically for this one-night performance.

Show off your stuff in a Festival venue! The Folk Festival and MARIA are teaming up to present open mic nights on the last Friday of the month in The Folk Exchange, 211 Bannatyne Avenue. Bring your instrument and take your turn on the Folk Exchange stage–or just come to listen (non-players will be charged a $2 cover). Each open mic night will feature a special musical guest host. The first Open Mic on February 29 was hosted by the fabulous banjo man Rob Wrigley of Manitoba bluegrass sensations Stonypoint. The March event was hosted by Karla Adolphe of Jacob & Lily.

Each MARIA and WFF Open Mic Night will start at 7 pm.

Young Performers & Young Artists Call for Submissions

Update: The Young Performers Program for 2008 is now closed to submissions, but the Young Artists Program is still accepting until June 15.

Are you a young musician or visual artist? Performers aged 14-24 and visual artists aged 14-18 should submit their applications to our Young Performers and Young Artists programs. Both programs offer workshops before the festival with professionals in your art form plus an opportunity to show your art or perform on stage at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. The application deadline for both these programs is May 15, 2008.

Little Folk is over for spring 2008! It will start again in the fall.

Update: May 17 class now rescheduled for May 24 because of the long weekend.

“Little Folk” folk music classes for kids are set to start up again in the new year with more flexible pricing and a different theme with each class.

Suggested ages 3 - 5
Saturdays 11 am (45 minutes)
4 sessions (3rd week of each month):

February 23 – “Get off the Couch” Healthy Living
March 22 – “Call of the Wild” Learn about Critters

April 26 –”Pajama Party” The name says it all we’ll be moving and shakin’ in pajamas
May 24 – “You got the beat” Play along with your favorite instrument
Each Session $15 (for one Parent/caregiver and child)
All 4 sessions $50
Extra Child $5 (per session)
