Polaris Music Prize Shortlist

Three of this year’s Festival artists are on the Polaris Music Prize shortlist.

Basia Bulat, Kathleen Edwards and hometown boys The Weakerthans are finalists for the prestigious award which honours albums in any genre based only on artistic merit alone.

Bulat, Edwards and The Weakerthans are three of ten finalists. You can read more on the Polaris Prize website. Congratulations to all.

Utah Phillips dies at 73

Legendary union activist and folk singer Utah Phillips died on Friday after a long struggle with heart disease. Phillips played at the Winnipeg Folk Festival in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1986, 1990, and 2004. Story here.

70 Trees Moved from Floodway to Festival (PDF)

The Winnipeg Folk Festival is adding 70 mature trees to the festival site in Birds Hill Park through a partnership with the Manitoba Floodway Authority.
