Great music, great feedback, beautiful setting, fantastic people. Thanks for the inspiration!
- Wendy Luella Perkins, Kingston, Ontario, participant
I’ve learned that even if I didn’t know them before, every single one of the instructors is world class. There’s a whole joy of discovery in it, and a great musical community that’s really nurtured here. It’s the highlight of my summer.

2009 Folk Retreat Instructors & Participants |
Pick, fiddle, jam, and create your way through three days of rousing collaboration with some of the best teachers in the folk music community. The 2010 Folk Retreat instructors are Pura Fe, Sam Baker, and Breabach.
Go ahead, use those three days before the Folk Festival to hone your folk music chops — you know you want to. Get inside the scene – be a part of the Folk Music Retreat.
For more information, contact the Folk Festival office at (204) 231-0096, or e-mail the Education & Outreach Coordinator (education@winnipegfolkfestival.ca).
WHAT IS IT?
The Folk Music Retreat takes place over three full days of instruction, (July 4-7, 2010), just before the Winnipeg Folk Festival (July 7-11) opens.
Choose your primary interest – fiddle, whistle, guitar, or songwriting – for focused, progressive study in the mornings. In the afternoons, participate in a variety of topical sessions, one-on-one tutorials, and ensemble rehearsals.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
Whether you are most comfortable making music in your living room or on a concert stage, participate in the Folk Retreat and come away inspired. The program is tailored to musicians of all ages and abilities. You bring a love of music and a desire to share it with others; we provide world-class musicians and teachers who will work with you at your level. (Participants must bring their own instrument.)
WHERE IS IT?
The Folk Retreat takes place at the elegant First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, on the banks of the Assiniboine River. Located at 603 Wellington Crescent, the church, with its original stone house and spacious modern addition, provides a peaceful, comfortable environment for inspired music making.
