SUMMARY:An Evening with Whitehorse
DESCRIPTION:For the first time\, Whitehorse hit the road as a true family band — a full-circle moment where two decades of music-making now spans generations on stage. \n  \nWith their new album All I Want Is All of It\, Whitehorse return to the sound that first defined them: folk-rock romanticism\, raw storytelling\, and the lived-in chemistry of two decades spent writing\, touring\, and building a life together. Recorded in a farmhouse setting with an emphasis on instinct over perfection\, the album captures the duo at their most direct and personal\, letting the songs breathe with the textures of the world around them. \n  \nThe All of It Tour brings those songs to life with a full band that reflects the deeply personal nature of the record. Longtime collaborator Johnny Obercian returns on drums\, joined by Jimi Doucet\, Luke and Melissa’s son\, now performing full-time on keys. For this tour\, the family circle widens even further with the addition of daughter Chloë Doucet\, a Toronto-based singer-songwriter whose jangly\, incisive indie-pop — heard on her recent album Sincerely\, has already taken her to stages alongside Hayden and performed in New York and Los Angeles. \n  \nLuke Doucet adds “After years of coyly rejecting our advances\, the impossibly lovely and talented Chloë Doucet will be joining us on our Canadian tour. Not only will she be performing her songs at various intervals throughout the evening\, she’ll also be joining Whitehorse on guitar and vocals to round out what is now truly a family band\, alongside her brother Jimi on keys. Initially we invited Chloë to open the show\, but after some thought we decided an ‘evening with’ Whitehorse featuring Chloë would feel more like the family celebration it really is.” \n  \nThe evening unfolds over two sets\, with Chloë joining the band throughout the performance\, making the show feel like a true family affair. \n  \nThe result is a performance that feels both expansive and intimate — a celebration of twenty years of Whitehorse and the ties that bind.

SUMMARY:Leith Ross – SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Hailing from a small town near Ottawa\, Ontario\, singer-songwriter Leith Ross (they / them) channels their honest and emotional storytelling through introspective lyrics and a blend of indie folk with alternative and rock sounds. In 2020\, they first introduced their artistry and independently released their debut Motherwell EP. Recorded live\, it received widespread praise from tastemakers and fans alike. They continued to evolve with their viral singles “I’d Have To Think About It” and “We’ll Never Have Sex\,” while also maintaining their momentum with a rising social presence. Signing to Republic Records in 2022 lead to their long awaited debut album To Learn the following year. As with all of their music\, the songs on To Learn are deeply personal and take them to vulnerable places\, exploring themes like queerness\, love\, relationships\, and mental health and rendered in folk-adjacent tones—sometimes with a pop beat or a rock riff\, sometimes with just their voice and their guitar alone. Closing out 2023\, they unveiled the deluxe version To Learn\, More\, including live versions of fan favourites “(You) On My Arm\,” \n“Orlando\,” and “To Learn.” Critical acclaim followed from the likes of NME\, CLASH\, Them.\, Ones To Watch\, and The FADER\, who hailed them as “your new obsession.” Beyond tours with Lord Huron\, Bahamas\, and Helena Deland\, they sold out headline shows worldwide\, performed at festivals across North America\, and received the inaugural “John Prine Songwriter Fellowship” at 2022’s Newport Folk Festival and a nomination for “Alternative Album of the Year” at 2024’s Juno Awards. Now\, with over 450 million streams across their catalogue to date\, they return with the new emotionally charged single “Grieving\,” heralding a highly anticipated new album helmed by hit producer Rostam [Vampire Weekend].

SUMMARY:Matt Berninger
DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, after ten years of living in Los Angeles\, Berninger (along with his wife and teenage daughter) moved to Connecticut. This change of scene suited him; he began to spend his days outside\, painting\, reading\, smoking weed and listening to music\, much of it his own. He wrote lyrics all over old baseballs\, and arranged dust-covered items in his barn into strange and surreal works of art. It felt good to be creating and to understand why he loves what he does. \nThroughout his work with The National\, Berninger is known for his contemplative narratives in which characters peer over the cliff’s edge. He has always been forthcoming about his own mental and emotional pitfalls. “Our heart’s are like old wells filled with pennies and worms\,” he explains. “I can’t resist going down to the bottom of mine to see what else is there. But sometimes you can get yourself stuck.” In 2020 he went through “a long period of writer’s block and self-disgust. I just got sick of of asking myself ‘Why am I like this?’” For him\, identity is amorphous and ever-evolving\, and stretches beyond individuality. This is the driving force of his second solo album Get Sunk. Under water\, everything moves in slow motion and Berninger saw his creative voice slipping away. But sometimes we have to drown to remember how to breathe. Get Sunk is the inhale\, bringing blurry realizations to the surface. \nBerninger worked with Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer Sean O’Brien. The pair would get together once a week to “fuck around for five or six hours.” The sonic world blossomed with the help of of friends and musicians\, including Booker T Jones\, Meg Duffy (Hand Habits)\, Julia Laws (Ronboy)\, Kyle Resnick (The National)\, Garret Lang\, Sterling Laws\, Mike Brewer (Nancy)\, Walter Martin (Walkmen)\, Paul Maroon (Walkmen) and Harrison Whitford to name a few. Some recorded individual parts\, most recorded together in a basement with Berninger. \nThe collection of songs spans the last few years\, but Berninger re-recorded vocals and rewrote lyrics for many of the older compositions. “I got my voice back\, so I needed to say something new\,” he explains. Inspired by the flora and fauna of his new home\, he recalled his childhood on the edge of Ohio\, and spending summers on his aunt and uncle’s farm in Indiana with his five cousins. They would hike in creeks\, cracking open “crystal apples” (a Berninger term for geodes) surrounded by Osage orange trees and dirt\, dust and bugs. They harvested Christmas trees and tobacco––Berninger admits he’s loved nicotine since first chewing on a tobacco plant when he was 12––and camped out. On one particular freezing night\, Berninger kept close to the fire and woke to find the soles of his shoes sizzling blue-violet. \nGet Sunk is not necessarily an autobiographical album\, but the narrator is processing how he became himself. Who is he compared to the kid on that sepia-toned farm? What is his idea of happiness? What the hell are we all searching for? Berninger is an expert in what it feels like to lose all bravery\, and Get Sunk points to an undulating reflection in the water. It’s about realizing that you are not yourself without a thousand others; parents\, friends\, siblings\, spouses and exes\, college roommates\, childhood best friends\, cousins and kids\, strangers even. \nGet Sunk’s opener “Inland Ocean” matches propulsive\, marching keys with a choral chant: “God loves the inland ocean / Lost cause\, I have no emotion.” Berninger often drifts to water in his lyrics––ocean sounds and kids’ voices are heard on the Ronboy-featuring “Silver Jeep” and album closer “Times of Difficulty” speaks of “how long we’ve been staring out to sea.” He says this is not an intentional motif\, but rather a more expansive metaphor. “It’s a sea of wildflowers\, or crickets. It’s that drowning feeling of life. It’s a sea of stars\,” he says\, adding\, “dead stars still delight us.” It was important to Berninger that these songs be delightful and romantic. He wanted the sun to come out\, to find the colors and bright spots\, but also encourage the shadows to coexist. “Times of Difficulty” points to this reach as he sings “I’ll think of you if you think of me / The way the sky thinks of the sea.” \nGet Sunk’s “Bonnet of Pins” highlights his knack for world-building\, pointing to the tiny details that make this stuff palpable. There are cigarettes and styrofoam cups filled with Nabokov cocktails\, miscommunication and sorrow. It’s a reminder that grief can also be a little funny. “Breaking Into Acting\,” which features Meg Duffy (Hand Habits) on vocals\, laments on the plasticity of performance. “Your mouth is always full of blood packets / You’re breaking into acting / I completely understand\,” the pair sing over a slow acoustic sway. “Sometimes you have to fake forgiveness before you can actually forgive\,” he explains. \nGet Sunk is an ode to the infinite. The others that make us who we are; the possibilities our paths can take and the abyss of both misery and bliss. Never static\, Berninger dissolves the border between process and product\, and surrenders to the many shapes both he and these songs will take. These shapes oscillate throughout Get Sunk but coalesce just enough to offer catharsis\, and something that feels tangible and real. “I was able to get the blurry picture as close to just right for me\,” he says. That the picture ever comes into full focus isn’t the point; it’s by being happy that we can make out anything at all.

SUMMARY:Matt Andersen
DESCRIPTION:When Matt Andersen steps on stage\, he brings a lifetime of music to every note he plays. His latest album\, The Hammer & The Rose\, is a veritable garden of heart; a (mostly) delicate collection of tender folk and stirring soul numbers that find the New Brunswick-born songwriter thoughtfully tending to the most important things in life. Andersen’s stage presence is informed by decades of cutting his teeth in dusty clubs\, dim-lit bars\, and grand theatres all over the world\, delivering moving performances that run the gamut from intimate to wall-shaking. In the studio\, he’s always brought the same attention to detail and commitment to craft as he has to his live show\, and the result – a multi-faceted and poignant body of work – has led him to amass over 33 million streams on Spotify and 30 million views on YouTube. \nIn addition to headlining major festivals\, clubs and theatres throughout North America\, Europe\, and Australia\, he has shared the stage and toured with Marcus King\, Beth Hart\, Marty Stuart\, Greg Allman\, Tedeschi Trucks Band\, Randy Bachman\, Serena Ryder\, Tab Benoit\, and more. \nAndersen nabbed the 2013 and 2016 European Blues Awards for Best Solo/Acoustic Act\, was the first ever Canadian to take home top honours in the solo category at the 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis\, won the CIMA Road Gold award in 2015\, and has won multiple Maple Blues Awards. Matt Andersen & The Big Bottle of Joy was nominated for a Juno Award in 2024.

SUMMARY:The Strumbellas
DESCRIPTION:Formed in 2008\, multi-award winning internationally renowned alternative rock band The Strumbellas have built their career on crafting exceptional songs\, easily connecting with fans through their honest and relatable lyricism and versatile sound. The two-time JUNO Award winners have spent much of their time on the road\, delivering standout performances at such notable festivals as Bonnaroo\, Governor’s Ball\, Lollapalooza\, Austin City Limits and more. \nTheir 2016 studio album Hope gained international attention with single ‘Spirits’ topping the Billboard Alternative Songs chart\, earning them the JUNO Award for  ‘Single of the Year’ and a coveted performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. ‘Spirits’ has since been certified 3x Platinum in Canada and Italy\, Platinum in Germany\, and Gold in Belgium\, France and the United States. Their 2019 release Rattlesnake and lead single ‘Salvation’ garnered another TV performance opportunity\, this time on Late Night with Seth Meyers\, and the track went on to win the band a 2020 SOCAN ‘Rock Music’ Award. \nNow\, with four full length albums under their belt\, an iHeartRadio Music Award\, three Canadian Radio Music Awards and two Canadian Independent Music Awards\, The Strumbellas recently reconfigured from six to seven members\, adding frontman Jimmy Chauveau to the mix after original lead Simon Ward opted to pull back from the rigorous touring schedule that’s become routine for the group. The latest iteration of The Strumbellas look to the future of the band\, working towards the next chapter of their career; ever evolving\, adapting and growing. The Strumbellas are Jimmy Chauveau (lead vocals\, acoustic guitar)\, Jeremy Drury (percussion)\, Jon Hembrey (guitar)\, Darryl James (bass)\, Isabel Ritchie (strings)\, David Ritter (keys)\, and Simon Ward (songwriter).

SUMMARY:Foxwarren (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:No one in Foxwarren has ever made a record quite like 2. The Canadian quintet\, built on 20 years of friendship\, ostensibly plays folk music\, where warm tones and cantering rhythms buoy songs of characters wrestling with existential quandaries inside of twilit vocals. But after touring their lauded 2018 self-titled debut\, Foxwarren decided to do it all differently\, eventually dropping the familiar band-in-a-room routine to instead plug those songs\, and various other sounds into a sampler. The result is mesmerizing and uncanny\, an album that traces two sides of a relationship through 37 minutes of collage art that aspires to “sound best blasting out your car window” as put by singer Andy Shauf. \nTo understand how Foxwarren got here\, it’s best to understand where they started. During the last decade\, Andy Shauf has become known as a uniquely imaginative and precise storyteller – a perpetually restless songwriter and musician\, always using some fresh fascination\, skill\, or concept as the catalyst for albums he would write\, play\, and produce almost entirely by himself. These ever-evolving interests are evident from 2016’s The Party through to 2023’s Norm. But before Shauf’s solo acclaim\, he was a member of Foxwarren\, which initially consisted of Shauf\, fraternal rhythm section Avery and Darryl Kissick\, and guitarist Dallas Bryson. \nFoxwarren’s debut arrived almost an entire decade after the formation of the band. It was released in late 2018 on ANTI-\, and quickly became a fan favorite. They found momentum through solid reviews and beloved live shows\, immediately overcoming any suggestion whatsoever that this was just a side project. Multi-instrumental ace Colin Nealis—a member of Shauf’s touring band—officially joined Foxwarren after their summer touring in 2019. Riding a crest of enthusiasm\, the band headed into the studio in October of the same year\, hoping to cut a half-dozen songs for a follow-up rather quickly. Given a little distance\, though\, the songs felt flat. \nSo Foxwarren opted to try something entirely new: In their own home studios across four provinces\, all five members would upload song ideas\, melodic phrases\, or rhythmic bits to a shared folder. In Toronto\, Shauf would then plug these into a sampler and construct songs from the fragments supplied by his bandmates\, leaning into classic hip-hop techniques and musique concrète alike as unlikely lodestars. Foxwarren would convene at weekly online meetings\, offering long-distance suggestions about which way a song might shift. \nIt was neither a fast nor an easy process\, but 2 became an uncanny revelation for Foxwarren\, a rock band allowing itself to be sampled in order to become something else. They warped and pushed the florid folk-rock of their past until it evolved into a song cycle about the vagaries of love\, where voices sampled from the past commingled with songs that sparkled with the power of their collective imagination in the present. It is a fun and surprising record\, where boundaries between genre and song are constantly blurred. \nAvery Kissick kickstarted the process\, uploading a mound of drum takes for the others to plunder. Bryson used one such fragment as the basis for a tune that would eventually be called “Say It.” When Shauf heard Bryson’s melodic vocal turn\, he was inspired\, lifting the melody and placing it over broad new bass notes dissolving between piano stabs\, singing of romantic \ndoldrums in a tone rising just above a whisper. Bryson completed the song with a halting guitar solo\, suggesting the search for some new language. The band upped the ante by weaving a trove of found-sound conversations between two lovers into the songs\, interstitial bits that advance the story but also raise intriguing questions about where songs begin and end\, how one melody might fade into another. These aren’t chances supposed “folk-rock records” take; they delight and so animate 2\, always prompting you to wonder how this story might evolve from here. \nThere is something uncanny about the feeling of these songs\, the way bits recorded in different home studios amplify your attention\, looping and interlocking. But the true connective tissue is the generous and gentle way Foxwarren’s 2 moves with melody. The woodwinds\, piano\, and drums of opener “Dance” intertwine like some soft-pop fantasy\, a perfect platform for an endearing plea for shared connection. “Yvonne” is a compulsory study of love’s strange spell\, Shauf setting the scene above a loping Laurel Canyon rhythm. The vocal harmonies hitting the string section feels like watching the sun rise in someone else’s eyes. \nFoxwarren’s quest for levity is evident in the song “Deadhead\,” which somehow moves from an MF Doom-like pitch-shifted sample to a line-dance guitar lick to honeyed country-rock harmonies of the titular band all in three minutes. There are darting flutes\, mangled electronics\, and meticulous snippets of rhythm\, all expertly placed to illustrate the song’s emotional tumult. “I won’t stop dancing\,” is exactly how it feels. \nA bit of borrowed dialogue offers the title phrase of “Listen2me\,” before a guitar riff and bounding rhythm cut in to repeat themselves\, spinning around again and again while Shauf relays a loud-mouthed lover’s quarrel—who is paying attention to whom\, who is interesting or exhausting. And then there’s the way “Serious” plods on purpose\, extending the bickering contest between lovers. This inevitable moment unspools into fitful samples and slow drones\, the disorienting end of the affair\, at least for now. \nBy himself\, Shauf has already had a stellar career\, his reputation built not only by the sweetness of his melodies and sharpness of his words but also his inability to rest with past success. Foxwarren\, especially here\, is a crucial part of that ongoing process\, but 2 represents something even more significant—five friends now nearing the end of their second decade making music together\, pushing against what they’ve learned how to do in order to venture somewhere new. It is the sound of friends who trust each other\, cutting themselves loose from their past and their preconceptions to have some fun with a sampler and the very idea of songs.

SUMMARY:Noah Reid with Madeleine Roger
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Noah Reid has announced a 30+ date North American tour in support of his latest album\, Adjustments. The tour begins September 11 in Chicago\, IL\, and wraps October 26 in Northampton\, MA\, with stops across the U.S. and Canada in iconic venues from coast to coast. \nNoah Reid has earned a permanent place in the music industry as a result of his powerful vocals and honest delivery. Evident on his debut album Songs from a Broken Chair (2016)\,  sophomore album Gemini (2020) and his highly-anticipated third album Adjustments (2022)\, which collectively have garnered over 180 million streams\, two nominations at the 2022 Canadian Folk Music Awards in the ‘Songwriter of the Year’ and ‘New/Emerging Artist of the Year’ categories and landed Noah on four Billboard charts. Reid’s songwriting style is reminiscent of singer-songwriters of the seventies but with a contemporary twist\, resulting in a signature polished\, albeit slightly rusted over\, tone. \nAs an actor\, Reid is best known for playing ‘Patrick’ in the Emmy-winning comedy series Schitt’s Creek\, for which he won a Screen Actors Guild Award\, along with the cast\, for ‘Best Ensemble.’ In 2022 he was seen in Brian Watkins’ Amazon series Outer Range opposite Josh Brolin\, Imogen Poots and Lewis Pullman and wrapped up his Broadway debut as the lead of Tracy Letts’ Tony-nominated play The Minutes\, which received rave reviews.

SUMMARY:Wild Rivers with Anna Graves
DESCRIPTION:Platinum-selling indie trio Wild Rivers\, Khalid Yassein [guitar\, vocals\, keys]\, Devan Glover [vocals]\, and Andrew Oliver [lead guitar\, synths]\, have a gift for penning introspective lyrics and genre-fluid melodies that transmit wisdom beyond their years. That expertise can be found across their new album\, Better Now (out October 18)—a companion to their latest record\, Never Better\, released this past July. \nRecorded at the same time in Joshua Tree\, CA with producer Gabe Wax (known for his work with artists such as Soccer Mommy and Adrienne Lenker)\, both Never Better and Better Now are filled with the band’s “inventive melodies\, rich harmonies\, and lush instrumentals” (Associated Press) and reflect their personal and creative growth the past few years\, as they’ve faced burnout\, mental health challenges and the complicated\, confusing and unknown realities of life in their twenties. \n“On the first record\, the songs contain raw\, absolute and instinctual feelings\,” Wild Rivers shares. “In many ways\, Better Now is the afterglow of this. We’re reflecting and understanding that relationships change over time. Complicated situations can be just that\, complicated. Feelings can remain unresolved. If the first record is bright and bold\, this one is the softer gradients in between; the sunrises and the sunsets. Both projects make up the full spectrum of who we are.” \n“Finishing Better Now\, we really felt that it was the close of a massive musical and personal chapter\,” the group continues. “It’s bittersweet but so meaningful to be able to chronicle our lives between these projects. Ultimately\, we are optimistic; ‘better now\,’ after the ups and downs of the relationships and turbulence of our twenties. Hopefully we’re wiser for it.” \nBorn in Canada\, Khalid\, who is half-Egyptian\, and Devan\, who spent her childhood in London\, England\, before returning to Canada\, first connected at Queen’s University in Kingston in 2013. Starting out as an acoustic singer-songwriter project\, Khalid and Devan expanded their aesthetic to a more full-bodied sound\, adding multi-instrumentalist Andrew\, whom Khalid calls their “Swiss army knife.” \nSonically\, Wild Rivers pull from a spectrum of sounds\, imbuing pop\, rock\, indie\, and folk into each song’s blueprint. Devan explains\, “We all converge on the classic songwriters. Paul Simon\, Joni Mitchell\, Neil Young\, Fleetwood Mac\, The Beatles and Elton John. Then today\, we have influences across the map\, indie\, hip hop\, R&B\, and pop. But even in those genres\, most of those artists are referencing another era of music\, which we think is really cool. We like to pull our favorite parts of every genre and patch them together and see what works and see what feels good.” \nSince their 2016 debut\, Wild Rivers has released three albums including 2022’s Sidelines\, which landed at #9 on the U.S. Spotify Debut Album Chart. Released to critical acclaim\, Under The Radar praised\, “expertly straddles the lines between folk and indie\, offering an empathetic and enveloping comfort and a piece of poignant pop beauty\,” while American Songwriter declared\, “Soul-stirring…rich male/female harmonies bring the emotional lyrics to life.” Following the release of Sidelines\, Wild Rivers was nominated for Breakthrough Group of The Year at the 2023 JUNO Awards\, saw their breakout single\, “Thinking ‘Bout Love\,” certified Gold in the United States and Australia and Platinum in Canada\, and garnered over 850 million global streams. The group also spent much of their career touring across the world including countless headline shows as well as dates supporting artists such as The Chicks and Noah Kahan. Known for their engaging live performances\, Wild Rivers will continue to tour through this fall with their international headline tour\, which includes sold-out shows in Los Angeles\, New York\, Chicago\, Dublin\, Denver\, Atlanta and more.
