Registration for the 2019 Festival is now open!

We have a new volunteer database this year! Although things will work a little differently for you, the basic processes are the same – and, we think it will be easier overall – for you, your coordinators, and staff!

The registration process has changed. Here’s what you need to do:

  • NEW: Check your inbox for your personalized registration email from the new Marcato system on Monday, January 28! This is the ONLY way to access your own registration form. If it's not in your inbox make sure to check your junk and spam folders too! (We can resend the email if necessary.)
    *NOTE: Your sender will either be Colette Havens or Marcato Digital Solutions.
  • NEW: There is no username and password! (Isn't that excellent?!) The registration link will take you to a form that already contains some of your personal information. Simply update the form and hit submit.
  • NEW: ONLY fill out this form if you ARE intending to volunteer this year. If you aren't planning to attend, just ignore this email and we'll check in next year.
  • As usual, fill out all questions under 'Registration Information'.
  • Update your contact information if any of it has changed in the past year. If we don't have your correct email address, you'll be out of the loop!
  • THIS YEAR ONLY: We could only transfer so much information into the new system. Help us flesh out your profile by adding your details back into the About You and Additional Qualifications sections.

Registration Deadline is February 28. 

If you can commit to being a rock-star volunteer, we will do our very best to make sure all returning volunteers have a job at the 2019 festival. If you do not fill out the 2019 festival Information by the February 28 deadline, we will assume you are not able to return this year and your volunteer position will become available for another volunteer.

Apprentice volunteers (returning)

In addition to the registration info above:

  • In the Apprentice Information section, make sure you’ve indicated 3-5 crews you’d be interested in working with.
  • If you would prefer to receive messages from us through Facebook, you can enter your Facebook email address in your volunteer profile. Your Facebook email address is generally yourfacebookname@facebook.com (check in the About section on your timeline).
Apprentice grads

If you will be 18 or older at the time of the 2019 festival, we’d like to invite you to ‘graduate’ from the Apprentice program and join an adult volunteer crew!

Here’s what to do:

  • You will be sent a registration email that will link you to the adult transfer form. Just follow the same steps as above.
  • In the Crew Preferences section, make sure you’ve indicated 3-5 crews you’d be interested in working with, to help us find you a crew with a good fit.
  • Apply by February 28 to ensure priority placement on one of your preferred crews. We will do our best to place late registrants, but your options will be limited.
Year-round volunteers

We realize you complete your volunteer hours year-round, so what this really means is: Do you plan to attend the 2019 festival? If you do not answer this question, we will assume you will not be attending the 2019 festival and we will not issue you a volunteer access pass.

NOTE: hours worked apply to benefits at the upcoming year’s festival.

Applying for a transfer

In general, we try not to promote crew transfers and instead want to encourage team building within individual crews. Our priority is to facilitate necessary transfers (i.e. “I am not able to perform the duties of my previous crew”) over preferential ones (i.e. “I’d like to try something different”). This means we may not be able to accommodate all transfer requests. We do recognize however that for a variety of reasons, sometimes a crew isn't the best fit.  All we ask is that when you ask for a transfer that you have truly given it your all in your current crew.

  • If you would like to be considered for a transfer, please contact Karla Ferguson, Volunteer Resources Manager, at kferguson@winnipegfolkfestival.ca.
  • If you are pre-approved for a transfer, we will email you the transfer form. Ignore the registration form and submit this one instead.
  • You will be asked to choose 3-5 crews that interest you. We encourage you to select a variety of crews (not all pre-festival crews, or performer services crews for example) as not all crews have openings every year and this allows us to use your skills where we need them most.
  • Deadline to apply for a transfer is February 28.
Lapsed volunteers

(haven’t volunteered since 2016 or earlier)

If it’s been a while since you volunteered, we are still happy to have you back as a volunteer! We weren’t able to carry your profile into our new database. You will get prioritized to return to your old crew, but depending on available space we may not be able to guarantee that. Give us a bit more info when you register so that we have some options in placing you on a crew:

  • Fill out the application form for new volunteers.
  • Under Previous WFF experience, make sure to check ‘yes’ to ‘Have you volunteered for the WFF before?’ and list your previous crew(s).
  • In the Crew Preferences section, make sure you’ve indicated 3-5 crews you’d be interested in working with, to help us ensure we find you a crew with a good fit.
Previous applicants

(who have not yet been placed on a volunteer crew, both regular and apprentice)

We were not able to carry your applications into our new database, so if you have previously applied we will need you to reapply in our new system.

  • Please fill out the application form.
  • All returning volunteers must commit to volunteering by February 28. After that, we’ll begin placing new volunteers on crews, likely in late March/early April.
Kin Pass

Kin Pass applications will open in April.

Refund Request

Refund requests will be available after the festival.
