Winnipeg Folk Festival Update!

We know you’ve probably been wondering about us, and this update is to let you know that we’re alive and well! These last two summers have been hard not being able to gather for four days of music and people at Birds Hill Park with all your smiling faces.

Our concert series is ramping back up this fall and we are hard at work planning our big return home on July 7-10, 2022. We’ve even started booking performers and suppliers needed to make it the best Fest ever!

Down below we’ve highlighted some of our accomplishments made possible with the support of our community. Your messages of love and encouragement have uplifted our entire team and we are so grateful to know how much you care about the Festival.

We will keep you up to date on our progress toward next summer. We are looking forward to being together again as that is truly what makes the Festival so magical.

Stay safe and we’ll see you soon!

Live Music
We are excited about a return to live music this fall with Five Alarm Funk kicking things off on October 21 and we are actively programming our Hear All Year concert series for the fall and winter. Visit winnipegfolkfestival.ca for a complete list of shows and to buy tickets.

Donations
To help the Festival survive, more people than ever before stepped up to donate. This includes over 800 new donors and double the number of donors making monthly contributions. Bravo and thanks for the support and encouragement!

Funders and Sponsors
Funders and sponsors responded to help the Festival survive by providing funding and continuing sponsorships even without our traditional event. These investments are a real indication of the importance the Festival has in the culture and economy of Manitoba.

2022 Bookings
Discussions with musicians and agents are underway for 2022 bookings. In addition, there are active discussions with other festivals to coordinate the performances of musicians on tours. This coordination helps manage costs and is critical to secure popular performers at the Festival.

Operations
There have been no layoffs of Festival staff during the COVID shutdown. Our experienced staff is developing plans to bring the Festival back in 2022, along with revisiting our priorities before the pandemic hit.

Manitoba 150 Workshop
Assiniboine Credit Union and Winnipeg Folk Festival Present So Long, Bannatyne will bring the workshop vibes to Burton Cummings Theatre on November 20, 2021. This Manitoba 150 celebration event was set to take the stage at the 2020 Festival but due to COVID-19 we’ve turned it into its own event featuring incredible Manitoba talent. This special night will take us on a multi-genre journey through the history of Manitoba music.
